Teen Challenge therapeutic boarding schools for troubled teen girls.

Campus Life

Service

Service is an integral part of learning at Lakeland Grace Academy. Students participate in service weekly. A portion of the service our program consists of students working in groups on ongoing projects. Some of the past and ongoing projects include on campus beautification, student government fund raisers, and helping out monthly at a community mercy ministry in Florida.

Recreation

As a reward for obedience and cooperation students are provided scheduled times of recreation throughout the week. The recreation program at Lakeland Grace Academy consists of on and off campus intramural sports. Students have the opportunity to learn, practice and enhance athletic skills. The intramural sports offered include softball, basketball and soccer. A variety of other games and sports are played casually to emphasize teamwork and fun. This relationship also serves as a foundation of support, honesty and trust for new students. Our students are the 2007, 08′, 09′ Florida State Girls Rugby Champions.

Big Sister

Senior students are used to “show the ropes,” the responsibilities of a big sister include assisting the new student in understanding the program, meeting other students and familiarizing the new student with the structure and daily schedule. Knowing how to act, whether in an academic setting, a youth service with teenage boys, or an emergency situation, builds confidence and trust in a young woman’s ability to meet future challenges. Our students are challenged with a wide variety of activities from peer leadership, community service and team building to checkbook management, public speaking, and etiquette.

Lakeland Grace Academy has developed an experiential curriculum that provides students with the opportunity to refine and incorporate new choices and skills into their everyday lives. Preparation for life requires a solid foundation in emotional intelligence social and life skills.

Plenty To Do

Our students enjoy numerous activities that are specially designed for growth. These may include, community service, daily kitchen chores, educational classes, guest speakers. Most all of these recreational activities at Lakeland are chosen specifically for their ability to teach independence, life skills, teamwork, leadership and problem solving. Many of these activities are also specifically designed to achieve therapeutic objectives, our equestrian program being the best example.

Utilizing various exercises, students will learn to work together through planning and executing projects, games, initiatives and activities. Each evening is filled with activities and events designed to help the students develop relationships and exercise their skills and emotional growth. Cultural activities make up a large part of our activities.

Athletics Passion To Win

Many of our residents will participate in a Girls Rugby league. Our past teams are the 2007 Florida State Champions and in 2008 they defeated the University of Miami and the Georgia State Champions, and they were invited to the 2008 Southeastern Regional Championship. Sports and physical fitness plays an important part in our girls’ lives as they prepare to go home and continue to be healthy emotionally and physically. We promote the participation of each child in a well rounded recreational program. Dance/Human Video

Developing a greater self-awareness & a sense of wellness can be achieved through discovering oneself & expressing oneself through body language. In our dance/human video groups, we help our students to communicate with each other, inspire a positive self-image, and encourage emotional consistency. Self-expressive dance helps students discover themselves and others, students learn to problem solve through body language and physical movements. Self-expressive dance can not be confined or hindered by technical steps or traditional principle & theory, allowing one self to move freely about articulating to the fullest her own interpretation of self, allowing her to feel more comfortable with her body. Often after practice, students feel more freely to convey and constructively critique their experience and begin the healing through another component of the academy.

Every week, students takes responsibility for accessing their creative energies, our residents make blankets, holiday crafts, paint, scrapbook, learn to knit and crochet, and make beaded handicrafts.

Our facility is within easy driving distance of numerous attractions, parks and beaches. We believe having fun doing healthy activities is an important part of healing and we are perfectly situated for almost all types of recreation.

At Lakeland Grace Academy, we believe it is important to give our youth an opportunity to digest their day and re-evaluate, contemplate their future, and dream of life’s possibilities. Even though our schedule is full, we take time everyday for quiet reflection and journaling. Students may be exposed to classical literature, various types of music, and etiquette. Your daughter will have the opportunity to regularly be a part of a wide variety of cultural experiences. Life skills are also taught such as sewing, financial management, time management, goal setting, resume writing and job interview skills. Your daughter’s schedule will be made up of in-house schooling, personal and house chores, cooking, physical fitness activities, service and work projects, educational field trips, and recreational activities.
